Nearing the end of their seasons, both of South’s ice hockey teams prepare for their playoff games and tournaments, while also reviewing the stunning accomplishments during the 2015-2016 season.
The JV South ice hockey team began its season with the challenge of moving from the JVAA league to the JVAAA league. However, the determined team still currently holds fourth place in the league, only a few points below North Penn. Still having a few games left before the season’s end, the team has the opportunity to earn itself a playoff position.
Junior Varsity Captain Sean Foley said that even though the team has definitely suffered from losing its past players, they are “doing very well and hoping to make the playoffs.” Foley also stated that “they are looking to finish the season strong and making an effort for the third championship in a row”.
Meanwhile, South’s varsity team also demonstrated hard work and skill by currently holding second place in its league standings, only one win behind William Tennant. Out of the fifteen games the team has played so far, they have only lost three games and tied one.
The varsity team also impressively has the most goals scored in the league, a remarkable total of ninety two. This is even eleven goals ahead of William Tennant. Player Darren Barder contributed twenty-two goals to this total. South’s varsity team also currently holds the title for least amount of goals let in this season.
Varsity assistant captain Jay Jenkins said that even though the team occasionally suffers from penalties, they are often successful in “playing as a team and not just a bunch of players wearing the same jersey”.
With only one game left until their league playoffs and flyers cup, South’s varsity team is ready and hopeful about the upcoming challenges ahead.
