LITTLE HAWKS
Interviewed by Senior Adi Caspi
Victoria Gribman has become an active and busy student during her first year at Council Rock South. She's involved in many activities, but of course still focuses on her schoolwork, and is therefore adjusting to the typical lifestyle of a dedicated student at our school. I was able to interview Victoria and ask her a few questions about her experience in high school so far. Q: How was your first semester at CR South? Do you feel acclimated to the environment of high school? A: My first semester of CR South was a big change from middle school, but I surely like it a lot better here! I finally felt challenged for the first time in the high school environment with all of my fast-paced honors classes. I was a bit overwhelmed with the huge school during the first few days, but I was acclimated to the structure of it by the end of the first week. Q: Which activities are you involved in? A: I am a member of the Council Rock South Orchestra. We have rehearsals almost every day after school . We are traveling up to New York City on February 13th to perform at Carnegie Hall. I am also a competitive ballroom dancer. I train every day and I am ranked top 5 in the entire country. Q: What did you do during the blizzard and the day off from school? A: I took advantage of the blizzard by sleeping-in late to recharge. I also had some extra time to study biology and work on my English project. Q: Who is your favorite teacher this year and why? A: I think all of my teachers are special in their own way. I like the fact they put so much effort into making each class interesting and productive. Q: If you could change one thing about our school, what would it be and why? A: If it were up to me, I would make high school start a bit later in the morning, at around 9 am. This way, we teenagers would be more awake during class. |
Interviewed by Senior Neena Culleton
Noah Inchausti is a freshman at Council Rock South who has wasted no time before getting involved in many clubs and activities. Noah is involved heavily in the arts department. He is a member of the Orchestra, Symphonic Vocal Ensemble, Symphonic Choir, and Golden Wings. On top of his musical talents, Noah is involved in French club. Q: How do you like high school so far? A: It’s going well so far. I have made many new friends, and it is really nice getting to be in the same school as my sister. Q: How are your classes going? Do you find them more difficult than your classes in middle school? A:They are going well. Some are easy, but some are very hard, for example math and biology. High school is much harder than middle school, but I am learning how to study and how to manage my time. Q: Have you found that joining clubs has made the transition to high school easier? A: Although joining clubs has helped me socially, my schedule is overloaded, and I am currently swimming in schoolwork. This challenge has taught me a lot about time management. Q: What is your favorite thing about high school? A: My favorite things about high school are having the opportunity to meet new people like Tina Mertz, the extended freedom, and the opportunities to join clubs and activities. Q: Do you have any regrets so far? A: I regret not joining ski and snowboard club. |
Interviewed by Senior Alexa Francisco
I had the privilege of sitting down with Council Rock South’s one and only Daniel Czmar. He’s a cool, clever guy who’s really nice and has a great smile. I mean, if not for the hot dogs, he’d be one of the coolest people ever. In history. But I’m getting ahead of myself, here. Daniel is a smart, funny freshman who’s found his niche in high school. He’s really looking forward to all the next four years has to offer, what with new and changing material to discover and fun things like winter ball and prom. He has refreshing perspectives and interesting idiosyncrasies, and I’m glad I was able to get to know him. Q: Which Disney character are you? A: (after much debate) Woody. Woody, you mean the loyal, problem-solving perfect friend that everyone wishes they had? Too cool. Q: If you could be a female celebrity, who would it be? A: Oprah. Daniel spat that out without a thought. Like, in another life this kid would give us all free cars without even thinking about it. Q: What do you do for fun? A: I like sports. I especially like to play basketball. Who doesn’t? Q: What would you say is your spirit animal? A: An eagle! Majestic and patriotic. Classy, Daniel. Classy. Q: How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? A: As many as it takes. I thought I could stump him with the number one impossible question that no one does or ever will know. This guy. Q: What’s your favorite class this year? A: My computer application class. He’s smart, too! Q: What character would you be in The Hunger Games? A: Mmm, Gale. Because we all know who Katniss should have really ended up with. Q: Do you think McDonald’s should sell hot dogs? A: No, hot dogs are already bad enough. I was just about to give the guy an award for being one of the coolest freshmen I’ve ever met, but hey, everyone’s entitled to his own opinion (even if it’s wrong). But really – you can’t have America without baseball and you can’t have baseball without hot dogs. It just doesn’t work. |
Last issue's freshmen:
Katie BennincasaInterviewed by Senior Anisha Jobanputra
Katie Bennincasa, a freshman, already feels at home at South. By joining the cross-country team back in July, Katie was able to meet other girls her age, and to her surprise become very close with the upperclassman. She came into this unknown sport and blew everyone away with her natural running abilities, practically winning a medal at every invitational meet! So far, she’s enjoying South and its many opportunities and is excited to see where this particular journey will take her. As Katie’s teammate and friend, I had the pleasure of interviewing her on her thoughts about high school. Q: How has your experience at South been so far? A: Coming into South I wasn't really sure what to expect, but it was a fairly easy transition. The part that made it easiest was joining the cross-country team. All of the girls on the team were so welcoming and made me feel comfortable about starting the school year. Q: What expectations did you have? Were they true? A: When I thought about high school I thought about the worst possible situations. I would worry about people shoving you into lockers or having really mean teachers. Both of these are false. For the most part, everyone is really nice and nobody would even have enough time to shove you into a locker! Also, the teachers are all tremendously helpful and beyond nice. Q: What has been the best experience you've had at south so far? A: My best experience at South has definitely been joining the cross-country team. Not only is it fun, but if I hadn’t joined cross-country it would have definitely been a really difficult transition. Everyone made the transition extremely easy and it’s also pretty cool to be able to wave to upperclassmen in the halls. Q: What has been the hardest part about transitioning from middle school to high school? A: The most difficult part of transitioning from middle school to high school for me was getting to know the building. It didn’t take long to get used to it, but the first week was brutal. I was late to practically every class and would get very stressed out when the bell rang and I was still wandering the halls. Q: What are you looking forward to in the future? A: Some of the things that I am looking forward to in the future are meeting new people, making memories and getting good grades. I want to be able to make high school memorable and not just the place that I went to for four years of my life. |
