Diving into their next production, the students and advisors for Golden Wings Theatre Company have taken on the Disney Classic, The Little Mermaid!
The stage version of this show originally premiered on Broadway in 2007 and had a run of two years. It features the classic songs and characters from the movie, such as "Part of World", "Under the Sea", and "Poor Unfortunate Souls", while also adding a few new ones to make it a true, new musical.
Though the original Broadway production took some liberties with the story line and design, the Golden Wings production follows more closely to the movie, with the set and costume design modeled closely after the cartoon characters.
The production is being student directed by the team of Amanda Kruse, Kaitlyn Paulk, and Morgan Gilmer. This is each of their first times on the directing side of production, and they are excited for the challenge of such a large musical. Heading the cast are Skyler Dorfman and Priya Ghosh as the little mermaid herself, Ariel. Playing opposite her are Jack Wheatley and Calvin Tobias as the dashing Prince Eric. Supporting them is the wonderful cast of characters the world knows and loves as well as a spectacular ensemble of sailors and fish that bring the magic of the movie to the stage.
The performances of the show are at 7:00 pm on March 3, 4, and 5, as well as a 2:00 pm show on March 5.
Trust me, this is one show you don't wanna miss!
